While on my last retreat studying and enjoying the presence of God, He pointed out to me some key points about Pastoring and Leadership. The verse below succinctly summarizes what he expects from pastors and leaders in the church…
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb – Exodus 3:1
He told me to inform you that He will ask you such questions about His flock using the Moses Method of Shepherding. There are three major points of shepherding from the above and they are:
THREE POINTS OF SHEPHERDING
MOSES ‘KEPT’ THE FLOCK: To Keep the Flock is to ensure no harm comes their way and watch over them indeed with all diligence and compassion (Matt. 9 v 36). As Christian leaders and pastors, God has given souls to us to care and cater for and we will be expected to give account of these souls on judgement day. He expects us to care for these flock(s) to ensure they are intact mentally, physically and most importantly spiritually.
MOSES ALSO ‘LED’ THE FLOCK: Go lead the Flock is a bigger business because ‘Keeping’ them without ‘Leading’ them may just leave them without direction. Leadership is what will eventually determine their destination and where they spend eternity which is the ultimate destination and goal.
TO THE MOUNTAIN OF GOD: This is where Leadership should take the Flock to ultimately. I expect you to Lead the Flock To The Place of fellowship with God not passionate about Gold. The modern day church pastors have failed God in this regard because they have Led the Flock to the place of Gold not God. There are many mountains but only the Mountain Of God Matters in this matter. Spirituality is the key!
I hope you have been charged briefly with these words and you will not disappoint God in the Christian leadership responsibility he has placed on your shoulders.
