After signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of the deal that saw superstar Alexis Sanchez depart the Emirates Stadium for bitter rivals Manchester United, Arsene Wenger’s work is not done.

The Gunners are sitting on plenty of cash after selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott for a combined £60 million over the past two windows and they’ve yet to truly replace either man.

Reports suggest that Borussia Dortmund hitman, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is Wenger’s primary target now and the Gabon striker should arrive in January.

It’s believed the German club want £53 million for the man that has 21 goals in 24 games this season, but that could lower to £35 million if Olivier Giroud is included in the deal.

Aubameyang has been left out of the last two Dortmund squads as punishment for missing a team meeting and reports suggest the club is resigned to losing him.

Sporting director Michael Zorc told Dortmund’s Twitter feed: “We have the impression at the moment that he [Aubameyang] has his head on other things and is not fully focused.”

Couple those reports with Wenger’s admission Arsenal are talking to Dortmund, it’s no wonder a picture of Aubameyang drove Arsenal fans crazy on Tuesday.

As you can see from the picture below, it seems as though the forward is packing his belongings, perhaps in anticipation of his move to Arsenal.

However, well-known German journalist Dirk Krampe cleared up the picture by posting a rebuttal of his own.

The tweet translates to: “Material delivery of his private sponsor. You can relax all. My gosh.”

Just hours earlier, Wenger admitted to an interest in the forward and that negotiations had begun.

Asked if he was confident of completing a deal for Aubameyang, Wenger said: “Confident or not confident, I don’t know. You never know how close you are.

“This is the kind of thing – he is one of the possible movements, but we have other things in mind as well. We have plenty of opportunities and the final decision is not made.

“At the moment we are not close to any deal, Aubameyang or anybody else.”

Asked if Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud could go to Dortmund as part of any deal, Wenger said: “The negotiations are not as far as that.”
