Some suspects have been arrested by Special Military Task Force, “Operation Save Haven’’ in connection with the weekend killings of over 86 persons in Plateau State.
The suspects, who are three in number were said to have been arrested at Gashish District in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The military paraded the suspects in Jos alongside 14 others, who it said were also arrested for causing “civil unrest” in the state.
The spokesman of the STF, Umar Adams, who did not disclose the names of the suspects, told newsmen that they were arrested, clutching sophisticated rifles.
According to Adams, two of the suspects were Fulani herdsmen while one is Berom, one of the ethnic groups in Plateau.
“We all know that some days back, some villages in Barkin Ladi were attacked and these three suspects were arrested in connection with that.
“As our men were repelling the attacks in those areas, we arrested these suspects with four rifles, three locally made guns and one AK47.The other 14 people were arrested in connection with civil unrest recently experienced in the state,” Adams said.
He added that the arrested suspects were still being investigated and that more arrests would be made in the course of time.
Alleged Fulani herdsmen, who have persistently unleashed mayhem in some parts of the country especially in the North-Central, had killed over 100, and destroyed property worth billions of Naira during the last Saturday attack on 11 villages in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and its environs.
